Clinical Pilates is a form of exercise and rehabilitation that combines the traditional pilates principles with the latest scientific research being undertaken by qualified physiotherapists.
All too often we hear of patients undertaking large generic Pilates classes where they receive no individual attention, often resulting in poor results or further injury. At Sydney Sports Med, our physiotherapists prescribe an individualised Pilates programme for each participant. This is important to ensure that you are performing exercises that are right for you. This makes Pilates at our centre ideal for rehabilitation after injury and for injury prevention.
Who is suited to Pilates?
Pilates specifically focuses on improving postural endurance, stability, alignment and co-ordination. It provides benefits for those with injuries associated with instability and weaknesses, including low back and neck pain. Pilates can also address the underlying causes of postural and chronic pains, and is especially suited to those with chronic sporting injuries, such as recurrent hamstring strains and shoulder instability. As the programmes are individualised they can be developed to suit people of any age or fitness level.
What can I expect?
Initially you will have a one-on-one assessment with our physiotherapist in order to determine which exercises are appropriate to prescribe for you and to teach you the basics of the Clinical Pilates method. After this, you will then move onto our small group classes. Classes are kept to a maximum of 6 people, ensuring that each participant receives close supervision and individual attention and upgrading of their programme by the physiotherapist.
Classes are mat based, and also incorporate the use of rehabilitation equipment including theraband and swiss balls.
All classes are claimable through your private health fund.
Group classes are sold only as a 5 or 10 week package. This is because your programme will be progressed over the 5-10 week period, ensuring that you get the most benefit out of your programme. Packages are extended should you miss a class 5 week class – extended to 7 weeks, 10 week class – extended to 12 weeks to ensure you maximize the benefit of your programme.
Please contact reception on 9251 0822 for information on class dates and times.
